Vinny's notes ahead of today's Boxing Day game

Welcome back for our last game at Turf Moor of 2023.

While I’m someone who is always looking to the future rather than back at the past - I can appreciate it’s been some year for us all!

Starting January top of the Championship and ending the season as champions with 101 points put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Your continued backing of us now as we close the year will live within us moving into 2024.

We’ll always be stronger together.

It was great to see Lyle Foster back on the pitch for the second half of the game against Everton.

We hadn’t really expected he would be able to return so soon but the opinion of the experts was that he should be kept in his natural environment - football. It’s something he needs, to be happy as well.

But after taking that first step - let’s also be mindful that he has a long journey ahead.

This is just the start in the process of him getting back. Part of his return to health.

Because of printing deadlines I’m writing this before our trip to Fulham - but I know your support will have been as strong as ever.

At a time of year when money can be tight - we appreciate the sacrifices that you make.

As a squad we made a number of visits across our community last week, to schools, hospitals and hospices, to thank some of you for that support and try and give some back to you.

Some of those we met were spending Christmas in hospital. Some, in hospices, aware this could be their last Christmas.

To those people, their families and their carers - it was humbling to meet you and our thoughts remain with you.

Finally, we welcome Jurgen Klopp, his staff and everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club to Turf Moor this evening.

I’ve enjoyed competing against Liverpool over the years and know we’ll face a tough test again tonight, but I hope you’re looking forward to the challenge as much as I am.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Vinny
