Good afternoon and welcome back to Turf Moor for today’s game against Preston North End.
It was great to get the win against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night. It was a battling performance in our first home game of the season under the lights, which should give us confidence heading into this afternoon’s encounter.
We announced the good news this week that our former captain Jack Cork has joined our U21s coaching staff. Jack’s a true professional and I believe will bring a huge amount to the role. He’ll be relatable to our young players, and I’m pleased he has continued his journey with the Clarets for this new stage of his career. We wish you the best of luck Jack!
In today’s programme you will find features with Josh Brownhill and Professor of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology Ian James, who have both been speaking about World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October.
This year the theme is 'it is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace,’ and it’s a topic close to our hearts here at the Club.
We have a responsibility as an employer to prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of our staff. We are committed to educating all our employees on the topic and we’re launching a Clarets Help mental health/wellbeing framework as part of our ongoing work in the area. We also have a mental health/wellbeing working group made up of representatives from across the Club, Academy and Community.
On a wider scale, it’s such an incredibly important issue that affects so many. Sadly, far too often we read stories or see tributes to those who have faced struggles and in some desperately sad incidences have felt that there is no way out.
It’s heartbreaking to hear these stories and see the statistics, which is why as a football club we want to use our platform to support campaigns such as World Mental Health Day. We have stands full of supporters who are all going through different things and facing challenges many of us may know nothing about. Let’s always remember to check in on those around us, a short conversation can go a long way. To anybody struggling, please do reach out. Help is out there in the form of charities such as the Samaritans, Mind and Andy’s Man Club. Please, never suffer in silence. Let’s look after each other.
Now, it’s only been a few days since we were last at Turf Moor together, celebrating Tuesday night’s win. Here’s to hopefully signing off for the international break with a positive performance and another valuable three points!
UTC!
