Good afternoon and welcome back to Turf Moor for our game against Everton.
The team did incredibly well to secure a point away at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. I was pleased that we could show such resilience throughout the 90 minutes against quality opposition.
A special mention must also go to James Trafford who deserves high praise for such a fantastic performance. I watched in wonder at many of his saves, especially in the closing minutes!
Football has been in the news recently following the incident in Turkey when referee Halil Umut Meler was attacked at the final whistle.
It’s an unsettling sight you never want to see in the game, and I applaud the relevant bodies for taking swift action.
Shameful behaviour such as this has no place in sport, match officials, referees, players, fans and staff should all be able to enjoy matches safely and respectfully.
Football has a worldwide platform and a responsibility, and we don’t want to see such a negative incident tarnish the name of the game we love.
Christmas is fast approaching and as a time for giving, we’re proud to support Emma’s Winter Slumberland Toy Drive at today’s game.
Alongside Emma, Burnley FC in the Community and Burnley Together, we are encouraging supporters to donate new and unwrapped toys which will be shared with children from the local community and put smiles on faces this Christmas.
Toys can be donated at the drop-off point which is located in the northeast corner of the stadium, opposite the Rapidz Fan Zone, and will be open from 3pm until kick-off.
Thank you in advance to everybody that donates a toy. We understand times are challenging for many, so all donations are very much appreciated.
Today is our last home game before Christmas so I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas. On behalf of everybody at Burnley Football Club, wherever you may be celebrating I hope you enjoy the festivities, and we look forward to welcoming you back on Boxing Day!
Now, kick-off is slightly later today, so we’re all set for a night of football under the Turf Moor lights. Let’s be in full voice Clarets, to make sure Vincent and the players feel us with them every step of the way.
UTC!
