Good afternoon and welcome back to Turf Moor for today’s game against Brentford.
I was pleased with many aspects of our performance against West Ham last weekend. To push a team that are seventh in the league to the final whistle and come away with a point is positive. It was a real team effort, but I must make special mention of David’s goal…I won’t tire of watching that clip back!
I’ve spoken previously of the improvement we are making as we navigate this challenging league. The players showed real spirit and it’s important that we show this fight and never give up attitude every game until the end of the season. As Burnley Football Club we are representing a town of hard work and it’s imperative that the town’s work ethic and values shine through in our performances.
This week we welcomed JJ and Kealia back to Lancashire and they are with us for this afternoon’s game.
Both JJ and Kealia have thrown themselves into everything Burnley, the football club, the town, the community, which is incredibly powerful. Football is all about passion and I love seeing the passion they have for the club.
Whilst in town the pair have been busy hosting a virtual breakfast for US Clarets fans and visited the women’s team to show their support.
It’s fantastic to have them back at Turf Moor today rooting the team on.
Earlier this week Josh Brownhill and Jack Cork made a special visit to Holly Grove Primary School to meet children from Burnley FC in the Community’s Limitless Clarets programme.
Through the Limitless Clarets programme, the charity offers football and multi-sports sessions for young people who have Special Educational Needs/Impairments or Disabilities.
It was a special visit as Josh’s cousins Ross and Christian from Stand Out Socks were also in attendance. Co-founded by Ross, who has Down Syndrome, Stand Out Socks in addition to selling socks aim to be a catalyst for meaningful conversations about disability inclusion and serve as a beacon of awareness for Down Syndrome.
Stand Out Socks have been working closely with the community department ahead of World Down Syndrome Day later this month, to create their own pair of socks which are available to purchase at the club shop from today. All proceeds from sales go to Burnley FC in the Community.
Staying on the topic of Burnley FC in the Community, the charity recently celebrated their 10th anniversary and marked the occasion with an event in Westminster.
The growth of the charity over the course of ten years is incredible and from everybody at the football club we’re incredibly proud of the work that you do!
Ahead of kick-off I want to say, Turf Moor we’re going to need you this afternoon. We’re in this together, every step of the way. Let’s do this.
UTC!
