Hountondji joined the Clarets in July 2024 from French side Caen, signing a four-year deal for a fee in the region of £3.4 million. Born in France to a Beninese father, the powerful forward signed his first professional contract with Caen in 2019 and made his Ligue 2 debut in 2021, before loan spells at Quevilly-Rouen and Orléans. It was a season-long loan at Rodez in 2023/24 that earned his move to England, the striker plundering 14 league goals - a club single-season record - to go with two in the cup. Hountondji made his Burnley debut in the opening weeks of the 2024/25 season against Cardiff City but found starts hard to come by. A Benin international, he made his senior debut in June 2023 and scored his first international goal in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying in October 2024.
