Anass Zaroury enjoyed quite the return to Turf Moor on Tuesday evening, following his World Cup adventure with Morocco.
The winger put the Clarets ahead just 49 seconds in against Birmingham City, to help the league's top goalscorers secure three points and a clean sheet on the night.
“I feel really good. I think I went for one month away and I think that’s a good way to be back in Turf Moor. I really appreciate all the support of every supporter in the stadium. I really loved it.”
The Clarets were full of confidence having gone ahead early and Zaroury believed it was the best possible start.
“Of course [it makes a difference] if you can score so early in the game, you come directly in a good mood to finish the game, so it’s a good thing.”
The three points ensure Burnley keep their top of the table position and Zaroury is pleased to be playing his part in the team’s success.
“I’m really proud [to be a part of the team]. When I came here the first day, I felt really good with all the teammates and especially when we play football I think, all the games, we have a lot of possession and it’s all what a football player likes so, yes I’m really really happy to be here.”
Despite the evening’s celebrations, attention will turn quickly to Stoke City, who the Clarets travel to on Friday night.
“It’s the Championship, we have a lot of games, so now we can enjoy tonight and from tomorrow on we have to recover and go back again against Stoke.”
Finally, it was the first return to Turf Moor for the number 19, since he joined Morocco at the World Cup, with the experience a time he says he will cherish forever.
“It was really great. It’s a dream that came true, to be a part of this historic Moroccan team. I learned a lot when I was there with a lot of big players so I’m really happy.”
