Winger growing in confidence with goal in second consecutive game as Clarets complete Wearside comeback

Anass Zaroury has praised his teammates, coaching staff and the Clarets supporters for helping him to grow in confidence after Saturday’s memorable 4-2 win at Sunderland.

The 21-year-old netted last week at Turf Moor against Swansea City, and was again on target in spectacular fashion at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking to the media post-match, the Belgian youth international discussed the goal, the comeback, and having good people around him.

Zaroury on the goal:

“I tried it a few minutes before, but luckily the next one went in!

“I’m really happy and growing in confidence from being here at Burnley. Every time I can be on the pitch I will, and I’ll give everything.”

Zaroury on the comeback:

“It was really good, but we have to start every game like we started the second half today. Even with the win, today is a big lesson for us.

“At half time, we asked ourselves a lot of questions, but we made it directly clear about managing the second half. We tried our best to execute what we’d talked about, and the way it unfolded was obviously great.

“After the first goal we scored, that pushed us really high [on the pitch] and the win can only give me confidence. The support from the fans is top, and I know personally I can only grow in confidence.”

Zaroury on learning every day:

“I think since I came here, there’s been a big difference compared to Belgium. Here, it’s more professional and you have to recover after all the games and make sure you’re ready for the next one, because it [the gap between games] is too short!”

Zaroury on Vincent Kompany’s influence:

“He puts his – and our – standards high, and I think if you have a coach like him then it only makes you better.

“We give everything every day in training, and we know we have to make sure that we stay at the top end of the league.

“He told us at half time [today] that we have to win this game. It was clear to us that it wasn’t like they were really better than us, and we knew we had everything [in our powers] to win it.”

Zaroury on hearing his name chanted by away end:

“It was the first time today, I think, but I’m really happy to hear it. Even at home after the game [against Swansea] last week, I felt it.

“It’s always really good support from the fans.”
