JANUARY
The first news after the turn of the year saw striker Ginny Lackey join on a dual registration deal from Manchester City.
There was a 2-1 league victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers shortly afterwards before Championship side Birmingham City visited Leyland in the FA Cup third round.
Burnley then entered the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup, beating AFC Fylde 6-0 at the semi-final stage, before a 2-1 league defeat on the road at Nottingham Forest.
FEBRUARY
Rebecca Sawiuk made several additions to her squad in February, with Monique Robinson joining on loan from Women’s Super League side Leicester City and Emma Siddall signing a dual registration deal from Manchester City.
Abby Clarke and Paris Dalton signed on free transfers too.
Unfortunately the weather affected the team’s fixture schedule again and only one game was played, with Newcastle United winning 3-0 at the County Ground in Leyland.
MARCH
It picked up again in March, with lifelong Claret Clarke and Aimee Kelly coming off the bench to score in a 2-0 victory at Derby County.
There was then a one all draw at West Bromwich Albion’s Hawthorns Stadium before the team returned to Lancashire and beat Stoke City 2-1, with Laura Elford scoring in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
The month finished with a resounding 4-0 victory over Stourbridge, with Elford netting a brace before Millie Ravening and Leah Embley came off the bench to put the icing on the cake.
APRIL
April was a momentous month, starting with a 9-0 league victory over AFC Fylde that saw Elford net a hat trick.
Then came back-to-back wins over Huddersfield Town and Halifax before a 1-0 defeat on the road at Stoke City.
Sawiuk’s team then made history, becoming the second group of Burnley Women players to play at Turf Moor in the Club’s history.
It was a day to remember in front of 2,068 fans, with Brenna McPartlan and Rhema Lord-Mears scoring as part of a 3-0 triumph.
More success followed as the group won the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup for the second year running, toppling West Didsbury & Chorlton 9-1 in an entertaining final.
MAY
The curtain came down on the campaign with a return to Turf Moor, but unfortunately there wasn’t as positive a result as two weeks prior with Derby County securing a 2-0 win.
Goalkeeper Kirstie Levell’s impressive season was celebrated the night before, with the shot stopper winning the Club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at the Burnley FC in the Community charity dinner.
