JULY
Rebecca Sawiuk was appointed Head Coach on 28th July, taking over the managerial reins having spent the previous season as Director of Football at Loughborough.
On the final day of the month, Thea Paul became the Clarets’ first signing of the summer following her release from Championship side Sheffield United.
After returning from their summer break, the players stepped up their preparations with pre-season friendlies against Liverpool Feds and Liverpool U21s.
AUGUST
2023/24 planning continued with training, in-house games and fixtures against Dundee Women and Everton Women.
It was a busy month transfer wise too, with seven additions in Bella Reidford, Rhema Lord-Mears, Maria Francis-Jones, Brenna McPartlan, Mikayla Wildgoose and Kirstie Levell.
The season finally got underway on Sunday 20th August, with Lizzy Hamer, Leah Embley and Millie Ravening on target in a 3-2 victory over Liverpool Feds.
The following Sunday saw the Clarets lose to Newcastle United in the WNL Cup, with Rebecca Ferguson winning the tie in the 28th minute of extra time.
SEPTEMBER
There were four games in September, with Embley scoring Burnley’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Then followed the first midweek match of 2023/24 and it was a comfortable victory over AFC Fylde. Embley was on target again before Aimee Kelly struck her first goals of the campaign.
Burnley scored a combined total of nine goals in the final two games of the ninth month of the year.
After beating Huddersfield Town 5-1 away from home, the Clarets returned to home soil and toppled Nottingham Forest 4-2.
OCTOBER
October saw Sawiuk’s side claim seven Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League points from a possible nine.
In back-to-back home games the Clarets put four past Stourbridge and two past Fylde, with Kelly bagging three of those six goals.
Ahead of that Stourbridge fixture, it was announced that Gracie Prior and Lois Marley-Paraskevas had joined the Club on dual registration deals from Manchester City.
The team then travelled north to take on Newcastle United in the league, recording a goalless draw with the eventual champions.
NOVEMBER
There were only two games in November, with West Bromwich Albion beaten at the County Ground, Leyland, in the league. Embley, Paul and Ravening were all on target in a 3-0 victory.
Burnley then played an Adobe Women’s FA Cup first round tie against Alnwick Town, recording a comprehensive 9-1 victory at home.
The visitors took a surprise lead before the Clarets turned on the style, although five of the goals came in the last 10 minutes. McPartlan bagged a hat trick in this encounter.
Moreover there were two additions to the squad in Lachante Paul and lifelong Claret Naomi Hartley.
DECEMBER
December was a quiet month because of fixture cancellations. In the end, only one game was played – the Adobe Women’s FA Cup second round.
Kelly, McPartlan and Laura Elford all scored hat tricks in an 11-0 victory over Coundon Court, with Ravening netting the other two.
