In their best season ever both on and off the pitch, Burnley FC Women finished 3rd in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League and won a County Cup for a second season running.
Finishing the campaign off with a first-ever Turf Moor outing against Liverpool Feds, here’s the story – in stats and figures – of how the Claret Women’s season went down.
In the league alone, Burnley picked up 16 wins from their 22 games, drawing 4 and losing just 2, averaging 2.36 points per game.

Finishing on 52 points, Jay Bradford’s side picked up 6 more than in the previous campaign, doing so in 2 fewer matches with 1 team less in the division than last term.
The Claret Women went unbeaten in their first 16 league games of the season, a record that remained until early April. In those final 6 league games, Burnley were only beaten by eventual champions Nottingham Forest & runners-up Wolverhampton Wanderers.
With 15 different goalscorers in the league alone across the squad, Bradford’s side found the back of the net 66 times in 22 matches, only failing to score on 1 occasion and ending with an average of 3 goals per game.
At the other end, only 25 were conceded in the league, with 4 clean sheets between captain Lauren Bracewell & fellow goalkeeper Lucy Farrell. Accordingly, the Clarets ended the campaign with a goal difference of +38.

There were also 10 further games across 3 cup competitions for Bradford’s side throughout the season. Notably, 7 of those 10 were all away from home, with 1 at a neutral venue.
Scoring 12 times in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup across 4 games. Of those 4 Matches, 3 provided first-ever competitive meetings with Tranmere Rovers, Cheadle Town Stingers & Norwich City respectively.
In the FA Women’s National League Cup, a 5-game run took the Claret Women into the quarter-finals, where they were beaten by Nottingham Forest.
All 5 came on the road, with 13 goals netted including 3 off the bench for striker Aimee Kelly at Liverpool Feds in October.
Interestingly, only 2 games were played by Burnley in the County Cup this season on the path to silverware, with the competition starting at the quarter-final stage, consisting of 5 teams.

Dispatching AFC Fylde in the last-eight, a walkover was awarded in the semi-finals with scheduled opponents Blackburn Community Sports Club withdrawing.
Nonetheless, a thumping 9-0 victory in the final of the LFA Women’s Senior Cup against Darwen FC Ladies followed, with 2 hat-tricks on the night as Burnley became the first-ever holders.
To conclude, across their 32 matches in 2022/23, the Clarets found the back of the net 103 times, surpassing a century of goals with 17 different goalscorers in the squad plus 3 own goals.
Averaging over 3.21 goals per game in all competitions, only champions Forest (81) scored more in the league than the Clarets (66), and for reference, across all competitions, Burnley conceded just 37, keeping a total of 8 clean sheets - 4 in the league, 3 in the FA Cup & 1 in the County Cup final.
Vice-captain Millie Ravening - Burnley FC Women's Player of the Season - was responsible for 30 of Burnley’s goals in 2022/23, netting 6 of those from the penalty spot.

Finishing as the joint-top scorer in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division alongside Derby County’s Amy Sims with 18, Ravening was tied with 5 others in the Burnley squad for top-appearance maker across the season.
Dom Cooper, Evie Priestley, Lucy Walsh, Leah Embley, and midfielder Ravening all played 31 games, missing just 1 each throughout the whole campaign. Each of those also played every one of Burnley's 22 league games.
Striker Sarah Greenhalgh meanwhile , who retired at the end of the season to bring an end to a 10-year association with the Club, brings the tally up to 6 players on 30 or more appearances having missed only 2 matches across all competitions throughout the season.
28 players were used by Jonathan Morgan and/or Jay Bradford across the 32 games, accruing only 16 yellow cards between them and with a clean slate on dismissals, 0 Clarets sent off in the season.

Crowning off this round-up with a key statistic, the last game of the season saw the Claret Women step out at Turf Moor for the first time.
Beating Liverpool Feds 2-1, Burnley-born Evie Priestley scored the women’s first-ever goal in BB10, with Courtney Willis going on to grab the winner having come off the bench in front of 2,967 supporters.
Now preparing for their 3rd season in the third tier, excluding the two which were curtailed due to COVID, the future looks bright.
