Burnley FC Women claimed victory away from home in the Determining Round of the FA Women’s National League Cup, winning 3-1 against Hull City Ladies.
A Millie Ravening double and a strike from substitute Aimee Kelly late on were enough to see the Claret Women through, with a finish from Hope Knight for the home side only proving to be a consolation goal.
Boss Jonathan Morgan made five changes from the dramatic 3-2 victory against Boldmere St Michaels Women last time out, with goalkeeper & captain Lauren Bracewell returning to the side to replace Lucy Farrell after a minor knock had kept her out against the Mikes.
Ellie York made her debut from the off, replacing Jess Simpson. Full back Simpson was part of Manchester United Women’s travelling squad for their Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United Women, allowed as part of her dual registration agreement.
Sarah Greenhalgh, Lucia Molinari and Ella Kinzett also came into the side in place of Leah Embley, Ellie May and the injured Alanta Brown respectively.
First Half
Both sides started the game slowly, and the first real chance came on nine minutes when Lucia Molinari knocked the ball down to Evie Priestley who poked an effort wide.

Burnley continued to knock on the door, with Priestley rounding City ‘keeper Chelsea Coles having been played through on goal and squaring to Molinari who failed to convert.
Birthday girl Lizzy Hamer then broke down the left before cutting back to midfielder Ravening, whose long range shot bounced off the roof of the net.
Hull’s first real opportunity came after 25 minutes with captain Ellice Jackman picking  up a lofted cross at the back post but hooking her finish wide.
The Claret Women though continued to try and get a grip on the contest, Priestley showing nice footwork with a touch and turn to slip Molinari in on goal, but Coles came out on top one-on-one.
And moments later, the pressure told with the opener. Priestley was again involved, nodding the ball down to Ravening who slid along the surface to send a shot into the back of the net.
Chris Hames’ Tigresses went close to a leveller on the brink of half time with Amy Pollock rising highest at a corner to send a header cannoning off the woodwork, but Burnley maintained their 1-0 lead going in at the break.
Second Half
Starting as they had left off, Hull saw the first chance of the second half fall their way as an audacious effort from long range by Knight almost caught out Bracewell, but bounced just wide.
At the other end, Molinari saw an effort go wide having been played through on goal while Sarah Greenhalgh then saw a long-range effort of her own fly narrowly over the bar.

The chances continued to come for the Claret Women as Hamer forced a smart stop out of Coles with a low drive from range, before the second goal of the afternoon came via Ravening oncemore, this time from 12 yards out.
Priestley was brought down by Tigresses defender Amy Wilson, and the midfielder stepped up to smash the ball into the bottom corner from the resulting spot-kick.
Burnley-born youngster Lou Lou Newton replaced Sarah Greenhalgh on 65 minutes to make her Clarets debut, one of four changes made throughout the contest by Morgan.
12 minutes later, forward Knight pulled a goal back for the hosts after the ball bounced around the Burnley area and she was on hand to slot home, setting up a tense ending in East Yorkshire.
The Clarets almost put the game to bed on the break as substitutes Leah Embley and Ellie May combined, Embley’s cross finding May in the middle with the latter's effort bouncing wide.

Nervy moments followed as City had the ball in the back of the net, but an offside player interfering with Bracewell meant the goal was ruled out. The Tigresses again came close with Bracewell forced into a save from Knight’s point-blank header which would have taken the tie into extra time.
But having survived that tide of pressure, Burnley did manage to finish things off late on with Embley again involved, cutting back for Kelly to fire in her first goal for the Club.
The win means the Claret Women progress on to the First Round Proper of the competition, with details of the draw to be confirmed.
Morgan’s side next return to action back in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League next Sunday – October 2 – away at Wolves Women as 1st meets 2nd. Kick-off comes at 14:00.
