Burnley FC Women secured three points beating Brighouse Town 5-1 in FA Women’s National League North action at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland.
The Clarets took the lead through Millie Ravening, before Lucy Sowerby equalised for the visitors, all within the first 10 minutes of the game.
Ravening struck her brace to put Burnley back in front and Evie Priestley scored to establish a two-goal advantage before the break.
Leah Embley and Dom Cooper added goals in the second half to see the Clarets through to a fifth successive win in the league.
Centre back Georgia Marshall started for the first time since her move from Huddersfield Town earlier this month. She and Lizzie Hamer were the only two changes to the side from the 5-1 victory at home against Boldmere St Michaels 10 days ago.
Emma Taylor & Olivia Greenhalgh were the two to drop out, with the latter named on the bench by Jay Bradford.
First Half
The visitors saw the first chance of the game fall their way as Monique Watson drove towards the Burnley goal before slipping through Drew Greene who pulled a fantastic save out of Lauren Bracewell in a one-on-one situation.
The Claret Women however bounced back and were in front moments later through
Ravening as Cooper crossed low towards the middle of the area and the ball was deflected into the path of the former who volleyed home.
Burnley almost made it two moments later as Embley dinked a cross to the back post and Laura Elford was inches away from tapping home.
And they were made to rue that missed chances as Town levelled a minute later after Sowerby latched onto a deflection and tapped the ball past Bracewell, despite Burnley protests for the offside flag.
The Claret Women had a few half chances before the half hour with Priestley prodding a strike wide and Ravening saw two strikes saved by Town ‘keeper Becky Flaherty.
Burnley’s pressure told as they were in front shortly after as Ravening struck once more when she beat the defender with a brilliant drop of the shoulder, drove into the box, and finished coolly past the ‘keeper.
And the Clarets made it three before the break as Priestley headed home at the back post following a dinked cross and a two-goal advantage was established.
Second Half
Burnley started the second half as strongly as they finished the first as Embley added a fourth goal with a powerful strike from the edge of the area.
Cooper’s super strike from 35 yards out, that flew over the Brighouse ‘keeper Flaherty made it five for the Clarets as they began to run away with the game with over half an hour to go.
Priestley almost got her second of the game as she rattled the crossbar from just inside the area in between Ravening seeing a shot deflected wide and Cooper being denied a second by Flaherty.
Elford almost joined the party of scorers as she struck just wide from the edge of the area in what proved to be the last action of the game, as the Claret Women secured a comfortable win.
Burnley Women are back in action this Sunday – 19th March – when they welcome Derby County to the Lancashire FA County Ground in the FA Women’s National League North (2pm KO).
