Burnley FC Women welcomed Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Anchor Ground in a losing effort in the FA Women’s National League North, with the game ending 2-1 in favour of the visitors.
In a game where three points would’ve seen Burnley top the league, Amber Hughes put Wolves ahead just after the break, before Georgia Marshall headed the Claret Women level on 66 minutes.
Anna Morphett converted from the spot to put the away side back in front as Jay Bradford’s side were defeated for only the second time in the league this season.
Interim Head Coach Bradford made three changes to the side that was victorious against West Brom at The Hawthorns last Sunday – 16th April – with Club captain Lauren Bracewell returning in place of Lucy Farrell.
Lucia Molinari and Sarah Greenhalgh also came in to replace Emma Taylor and Evie Priestley respectively.

First Half
The visitors had the first real chance of the game, as Beth Merrick dragged an effort wide from distance, before Sarah Greenhalgh did well to win the ball back and beat two defenders but her shot was held by Wolves stopper Shannon Turner.
The Burnley forward was involved once more on 12 minutes, as she swung a ball in from the left that found the head of Laura Elford but the scorer of the Claret Women’s 100th goal of the season could only find the hands of Turner.
Millie Ravening then struck a low drive wide before Wolves delivered a low cross towards the back post but no one was there to tap home for the visitors.
The Clarets came close on 43 minutes, with Dan McNamara’s travelling side clearing a cross towards the edge of the area where Lizzie Hamer was waiting, but her half volley dropped inches wide with Turner beaten.
Bradford’s side again almost netted just before the half time whistle as Turner failed to deal with a flicked effort from Sarah Greenhalgh, then the striker’s follow-up was blocked on the line and Elford was unable to convert at the third time of asking on the stretch.

Second Half
The visitors took the lead just after the break through Hughes, who received the ball on the right-hand side and looped the ball over Bracewell in the Burnley goal.
As the Claret Women looked for a way back into the game, Ravening shot over from range before Elford curled over from just inside the area.
Bradford’s team would level the game on 66 minutes, with Dom Cooper delivering a corner to the back post, that Georgia Marshall rose highest to head home into the bottom corner, in what was her first goal for the Club.
Wolves were awarded a penalty moments later, as Molinari allegedly handled a cross from the right-hand side and Anna Morphett stepped up and sent Bracewell the wrong way to convert.
Ravening almost levelled for the Claret Women, as Hamer kept a cross alive at the back post and hooked the ball back into the area for Ravening to volley towards goal but her strike was deflected into the hands of Turner.

The away side dealt with a number of Clarets crosses in the last few minutes to see out the victory and condemn the Clarets to defeat.
