Burnley FC Women earned three points on the road to get back to winning ways in the most dramatic of fashions, 3-2 victors at Boldmere St Michaels Women.
Hometown hero Leah Embley struck the winning goal with the last kick of the game three minutes into time added on at the end of the second half having twice been pegged back from a winning position earlier in the contest.
Lucy Farrell started in goal for the first time this season with Club captain Lauren Bracewell missing through a minor injury, while Jess Simpson started at left back having officially joined the Clarets earlier in the day from Manchester United Women’s Academy on dual registration terms.
Before kick-off at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground, the two sides held a minute’s silence, paying respect to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

First Half
Starting strong, Simpson set Lizzy Hamer away down the left two minutes in to cross for Embley, but the forward couldn’t connect properly with the ball on the volley at the back post.
At the other end, goalkeeper Farrell then held on to a tame effort from Boldmere’s Jade Formaston, before the opening goal came on 12 minutes through Evie Priestley.
Clinical as ever, the striker made no mistake in slotting past Charlotte Quinne when threaded through on goal.
Ellie May also went close soon after with an effort from out wide which Quinne tipped over the bar, while May was again denied at close range by a smart stop minutes later.
Wales youth international Farrell adjusted well to keep hold of a dangerous free-kick from Hayley Sutton which had taken a deflection, with that the last action of note in the first half other than Ella Kinzett replacing the injured Alanta Brown on the half-hour mark.
Second Half
The hosts started brighter at the restart and were level on 52 minutes as Lois Jefferies headed home from a corner which had been awarded contentiously, not for the first time in the game.
Burnley went in search of a second and almost had it instantly as Priestley met Simpson’s free-kick but headed over, while the Claret Women also saw a goal chalked off for a tight offside call on 62 minutes with Priestley the scorer denied.

Millie Ravening – who captained the side in the absence of Bracewell – fired over from a set-piece routine a minute later before she netted 60 seconds later, curling past Quinne from just inside the box when Embley teed her up to do so.
Settling the game down in the minutes that followed, Burnley could’ve wrapped it up but saw Priestley and substitute Sarah Greenhalgh have shots kept out by Quinne.
Hamer was the next to come close, threaded through one-on-one but seeing the Boldmere shot stopper smother her and again save the strike she managed to get away.
Morgan’s side were made to pay two minutes before the end of the 90 as substitute Jess Lundie hammered home the rebound from a smart stop by Farrell to level things up for the Mikes.

And that had looked like it would be that, but for the second time this season, Burnley would find a last-gasp winner to make it four wins from five this term.
After Boldmere’s Lauren Da’ Casto picked up two bookings in quick succession, one for timewasting after the equaliser and the other for a foul to stop a counter attack, she was sent off by the referee.
Protesting at the decision, Da’ Casto took some time to leave the field of play, and with the time that was added on for that stoppage, Burnley would make their opponents pay to complete a ‘smash and grab’.
Hamer swung the ball in from the left wing, and when a Boldmere defender missed the header, Embley was there at the back post to tap into an empty net with the last kick of the game.
