Burnley FC Women are in midweek action, travelling to Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night – 5th April – with the opportunity to go back 2nd in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League (7.45pm KO).
For the first time in over a calendar year, Jay Bradford’s side head into a game on the back of a league defeat having been beaten 3-0 away at leaders Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The loss – a first in the league since 16th March 2022 – brought with it an end to a 16-game stint unbeaten in the division this term.

Now sat 3rd in the standings, the Claret Women trail table toppers Forest by seven points with two games in hand. Wolves sit 2nd at present, and are a point ahead of Burnley having played the same number of games.
But with the Wanderers not in action this midweek, tomorrow evening’s trip to the Stafflex Arena – the second of three away games in seven days - gives Bradford’s side an opportunity to leapfrog them and go back 2nd.
Terriers Huddersfield, like Burnley, have played out 17 league matches so far this term and have five remaining. Glen Preston’s side look set for a comfortable mid-table finish, sat 7th with 21 points.
As only the league winners are in with a chance of promotion, Town mathematically can’t accrue enough to catch Forest in their remaining games, and need a maximum of five more points to put the rubber stamp on their safety.

They travelled to Molineux on Sunday where Wolves were the hosts, and the Wanderers ran out 5-0 winners.
Earlier on in the season though, Town took a hard-fought point from their visit to the County Ground in Leyland in a 3-3 draw with the Clarets.
Burnley trailed 2-1 at the break in the September sunshine, and hit back with two second half goals which looked to be enough to earn three points until a last-minute header from Laura Elford saw the shares spoiled.
Six months on, striker Elford is now a Claret herself having joined Burnley in February. Teammate Georgia Marshall also made the same move the following month and both could feature against their former club tomorrow.
