Roses clash sees Clarets travel to Yorkshire

Burnley Women will be aiming to earn a fifth straight win in all competitions when they take on Halifax Women on Sunday afternoon.

Rebecca Sawiuk’s side have hit a rich vein of form of late and most recently beat Derby County 2-0 at the County Ground in Leyland.

A first-half Brenna McPartlan header was followed by a pinpoint finish from Amelia Hazard as the Clarets earned a valuable three home points.

The result was enough to see Burnley climb to 2nd in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League table.

Our tally of 19 points is the same as Wolverhampton Wanderers have accumulated in 3rd, and one less than league leaders Nottingham Forest.

Sunday’s opponents Halifax are currently competing at the other end of the table, having claimed one point from their opening eight matches.

They sit 11th in the 12-team table, knowing that a win this weekend could see them climb out of the relegation zone should Stourbridge lose to Rugby Borough.

Managed by Rob Mitchell, the Yorkshire-based team were beaten 8-0 at Forest’s City Ground last time out.

They did earn a first win of the campaign a week prior, though, beating Notts County 2-1 in the FA Women’s National League Plate courtesy of goals from Chantelle Gallagher and Minnie Wilson.

The Blues will not be able to call on the services of Lucy Walsh, who is on loan from us for the entirety of 2024/25.

Burnley did the double over them last season, winning the latest game 2-1 away from home in April 2024.

Manchester City loanee Gracie Prior opened the scoring with her first Clarets goal in the first half, but the hosts equalised soon after the interval through Katie Ramsden.

Sawiuk’s side fought until the very end though and Laura Elford netted a 97th-minute winner to spark jubilant scenes on and off the pitch.

Supporters are welcome to get behind the team at Horsfall Community Stadium (BD6 2NG).

Tickets can be purchased on the gate at £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and £2 for children.

It is important to note that kick-off will be 3pm, instead of the usual 2pm time slot.

If you can’t make it in person, you can follow live updates on X @BurnleyFCWomen and Instagram @burnleyfcwomen, with a match report to follow on www.burnleyfootballclub.com.
