Burnley FC Women return to league action on Sunday (August 21) with a trip to Derby County Women as the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League gets underway.
After a pre-season which has included trips to Swindon, Stockport, Sheffield & Newcastle, the Claret Women now travel to the Midlands for the opening game of their campaign where they will play a competitive game for the first time under the new regime of boss Jonathan Morgan, appointed back in May.
Finishing 4th last term, the Club have brought in a whole host of new signings over the course of this summer. Burnley supporter Leah Embley was the first through the doors with the striker returning home having departed Brighouse Town Ladies.
Also among the new signings is fellow forward Ellie May who, on the opening day of the campaign, is in contention to go up against her former side.
She played her part down for the Ewe Rams in 2021/22 as they finished 2nd under the guidance of Samantha Griffiths.
Retaining most of their squad members from last season, Derby have added to their ranks with Becky McGrother from Women’s Championship side Coventry United, Megan Clarkson from Sheffield FC Women, and Anita Gaspar who has recently been involved with Leicester City of the Women’s Super League.
Molly Sutherland also joined Derby on Friday having returned from America on a scholarship.
The Ewe Rams pre-season featured games against Mansfield Town Ladies, Lincoln City Women, Doncaster Rovers Belles & Cardiff City Ladies.
With both Burnley and Derby finishing in the top four last season, Sunday’s game promises to be a quality game to open the campaign.
Taking place at the Don Amott Arena in Mickleover, tickets are priced at £5 for Adults & £2 for U16s + Concessions. They can be bought in advance HERE or on the day at the ground.
