Nathan Tella was pleased with his brace against Blackpool at Turf Moor on Saturday, but acknowledged the disappointment of letting a two-goal lead slip to draw 3-3 with the Tangerines.
Tella, who joined on loan from Southampton earlier this month, spoke to the Club’s media post-match about an action-packed full debut in the Claret & Blue.
Tella on a day of mixed emotions:
“Obviously it was a good day for me, and nice to score two on a first ever start [for the Club]. The fans were amazing too, but the main thing is that we didn’t get the three points.
“It felt like a game which was there for us to win and the fact we could only take a point from it is something we’re disappointed with. It’s something we can look to build and improve upon.
“It’s a very good start for me, but to me, it doesn’t matter, because it felt like it was a game we should’ve won. Hopefully now we can use that to motivate us when we do get into winning positions not to slip up like this again.”
Tella on his link play with the attackers in the squad:
“It’s nice to play with them. Obviously we’ve had a few sessions now, this is my third game [with them] and I think they’ve built an understanding of how I like to play. I like to run in behind without the ball and create chances, and they can work off that.
“It’s nice because I can use that to get in behind and find them at their feet. I’m going to enjoy working with the forwards this season.”
Tella on playing games regularly:
“I’m not saying I’m guaranteed to play football here, but if I keep doing all the right things and keep working hard, I feel like I’m going to give myself the best possible chance.
“If I can keep doing stuff like I’ve done today, I think that I’ve definitely got more of a chance to play.”
Tella on the Clarets fans:
“It’s a nice feeling to have them behind me. [It was] my second home game and it was nice obviously to hear the fans screaming my name, even though I’m disappointed [with the result].”
Tella on a learning curve & what the side need:
“More goals, better team performances, and more wins. It’s something we know we can do, and we can use this to motivate us.
“When we’re getting into winning positions, we know not to take our foot off the gas. We just have to keep strangling them trying to score and creating chances. We have to keep making it difficult for them.”
