Burnley Women will be looking to re-affirm their grip on the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup when they play Chorley Women in the final on Thursday night.

The competition has been in existence for two seasons and the Clarets have won it both times, scoring nine times in each of the finals.

West Didsbury & Chorlton were the opponents in 2023/24 and Burnley were 9-1 winners, with Laura Elford netting a hat-trick and Brenna McPartlan scoring twice on a successful night under the lights.

The Clarets head into the match on the back of a first win in four last time out, beating West Bromwich Albion 3-0 at the Valley Stadium in Redditch.

Naomi Hartley set them on their way with a header from a well-worked corner shortly after the hour, and after a period of controlled possession two more goals put the cherry on top late on.

The first came when Aimee Kelly picked out the bottom right corner with a powerful strike, and McPartlan then expertly placed a free-kick beyond Baggies ‘keeper Anna Miller.

After receiving a bye in the first year of this year’s competition, we came through a semi-final against AFC Fylde in January.

It was 5-0 that day thanks to a brace from Claudia Walker and further strikes from Elford, Grace Palmer and Heidi Logan.

Chorley operate in the fourth tier of the women’s pyramid and have had to come through two matches to reach the final.

A 2-0 victory over Fleetwood Town Wrens was the pre-cursor to an emphatic 7-0 triumph over Darwen two months ago.

That was their first game of 2025 and, interestingly, the Black and Whites played a friendly against third-tier opposition in Sporting Khalsa a week later, losing 3-1.

Led by Manager Carmelo Ruggieri, Chorley harbour ambitions of gaining promotion to our league and are six points off leaders Cheadle Town Stingers with a game in hand.

Lizzy Hamer is a familiar face within their squad, having spent nine years as a Claret and been part of our back-to-back promotion winning sides.

The County Ground in Leyland (PR25 2LF) is the venue and tickets can be purchased there on the night, priced at £8 for adults and £4 for concessions. Cash and card payments are accepted.
