Claret Women take on Forest in top of the table clash

Burnley FC Women return to home action on Sunday, at they welcome 2nd placed Nottingham Forest to the Lancashire FA County Ground in the FA Women’s National League North (2pm KO).

The Claret Women come into this game following back-to-back wins, against AFC Fylde and Huddersfield Town, securing 3-0 and 5-1 victories respectively.

Against the Coaster, Leah Embley opened the scoring for the Clarets before an Aimee Kelly second half double secured the three points.

Following on from that, in their game against the Terriers, Millie Ravening netted first before Fetruz Abdullahi equalised moments later.

Midfielder Ravening put the Clarets back in front before the break and goals from Amaya Coleman-Evans, Maria Francis-Jones and Rhema Lord-Mears secured a resounding victory to see Burnley move to the top of the table.

Sunday’s visitors also picked up a victory over Fylde ahead of this game, winning 3-1 at Grange Park.

Mai Moncaster gave Forest an early lead, before netting her brace two minutes later as the Reds went two up.

The Coasters pulled a goal back, but Chloe Dixon bagged with a calm finish past the ‘keeper to make it four wins on the bounce for Carly Davies’ side, which sees them 2nd in the table, one place behind the Claret Women.

The last time Burnley Women faced Forest was in a 3-0 losing effort against last season’s league winners.

The Reds took the lead on 17 minutes through forward Sophie Domingo and added a second just after the break as the same scorer struck again.
