Potters visit Lancashire with three points up for grabs

In-form Burnley Women will be aiming to complete a league double over Stoke City when the Potters travel to Lancashire on Sunday afternoon.

The Clarets have recorded five straight wins in all competitions, scoring 30 goals in the process and conceding none.

Liverpool Feds were the latest opponents to be downed by Rebecca Sawiuk’s side and it finished 5-0 at the same venue as this weekend’s game – the County Ground in Leyland.

Laura Elford’s 23rd goal of the season broke the deadlock with 24 minutes on the clock and it was 2-0 shortly after through Heidi Logan.

Logan, who won the league’s top goalscorer award on loan at Stoke from Charlton last season, scored twice more against Feds to earn a first career hat-trick before Claudia Walker completed the scoring with 20 minutes to play.

The Clarets have now won 12 of their 14 league matches this season and find themselves 3rd in the 12-team table.

Stoke City have also won each of their last five outings and are just three points and one place behind the Clarets in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League, although they have played one match more.

Led by experienced Head Coach Marie Hourihan, the Potters beat Derby County 4-1 earlier this week with striker Delphi Cole at the double including one from the penalty spot.

Olivia Cook and former Claret Mille Ravening were also on target at Wellbeing Park.

Burnley came out on top when these two teams met in the reverse fixture back in September, recording a 5- 1 victory.

An Elford brace was a key part of that success, with further goals coming from Charley Docherty, Anna Grey and Aimee Kelly at Clayton Wood Training Ground.

Burnley season ticket holders can gain entry for free by showing their season ticket at the turnstiles. Other adults are £5, while concessions are £2.
