Adobe Women’s FA Cup reaches third round stage

Having beaten Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City in previous rounds, Burnley Women host Peterborough United in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup this weekend.

This third round tie is a 1pm kick-off at the County Ground in Leyland, with a place in Monday night’s next round draw up for grabs.

Lou Roberts and her players head into it on the back of back-to-back away league matches at Rugby Borough and Middlesbrough, both of which ended in victory.

It was 3-1 at Middlesbrough’s Map Group UK Stadium last weekend, with wing-backs Thea Paul and Charley Docherty establishing a commanding lead at the break.

Striker Charlie Chadwick made it 3-0 in the second half and the Clarets managed a late rally to ensure all three points would be coming back to Lancashire.

Our last Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie was against Norwich City, and it finished 4-0 on a wet and windy day.

Chadwick and Paul were on target again before Emma Siddall rifled in a third and Aimee Kelly came off the bench to add extra gloss to the result.

Peterborough United are a fourth tier outfit and have enjoyed a hugely successful campaign to date, sitting top of the FAWNL Division One Midlands.

The Posh sit top of their 12-team table having taken 28 points from a possible 30, conceding just eight times in the process.

They head into this weekend on the back of a 4-0 victory over Kidderminster Harriers seven days prior.

All the goals came in the second half, with Keir Perkins, Courtney Clarke, Jess Rousseau and Kira Rai finding the back of the net.

Peterborough put another four goals past Wallsend BC in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup second round, having put the same number past Real Bedford at the start of the competition in October.

Tickets can be purchased upon arrival at Leyland (PR25 2LF), with adults priced at £5 and U14s being £1. Free parking is available directly outside the venue.
