Burnley FC Women host Loughborough Lightning this Sunday – 12th February – at the County Ground in Leyland (2pm KO), the same opponents they beat with a dramatic winner in their last outing.
Making the trip to Leicestershire last Sunday, Jonathan Morgan’s side had looked as though they’d have to settle for a point after Ellie York’s opener had been cancelled out by a penalty at the other end.
But in the 94th minute, centre back Emma Taylor was alive from a corner to loop the rebound of her own header back over her shoulder and into the back of the net, sparking scenes of jubilation from all of a Claret persuasion.
That victory came in Burnley’s first league game for close to three months, and moved the Claret Women up to 3rd in the table.
They are now level on points with 2nd-placed Wolves, and six behind leaders Nottingham Forest but do have a game in hand on the Reds.
Still unbeaten in the league this term, Morgan’s side now welcome Loughborough to Leyland for what will be a first game at home in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League since 23rd October.
Lightning – whose manager Charlie Baxter took charge of his first game at the helm in last Sunday’s reverse fixture – remain bottom of the table without a win this season.
The two points that they’ve picked up so far in this campaign have come via draws against AFC Fylde in October (2-2) and Brighouse Town in December (0-0).
Loughborough’s previous visit to the County Ground ended with a 3-0 win for Burnley with Evie Priestley amongst the goals that afternoon back in October 2021.
This weekend, they will be without captain Kayleigh Hines who – having already been booked – was shown a straight red card in the second half of the previous encounter for a reckless challenge on Ella Kinzett.
Entry is free to all at the Lancashire FA’s headquarters on Sunday, and we’re pleased to be able to stream the game live on TikTok, as with all of our home league matches this season.
