Clarets head to Nelson eyeing three points

Burnley Women’s penultimate match of the season sees them welcome Halifax to Lancashire on Wednesday evening.

Louise Roberts’ side head to the Daisy Communications Arena in Nelson with the aim of finishing the campaign as strongly as possible.

It’s a quick turnaround from Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Rugby Borough, with all four goals coming in the first half at the Nationwide Windows Arena.

After Rugby took the lead through Yasmin Mosby, Clarets captain Jade Richards netted her second goal in as many matches from a set piece to equalise in the 43rd minute.

The hosts went straight up the other end though, producing what turned out to be a fatal three minutes with two quick-fire goals.

After that result Burnley are now 5th in the 12-team table, with a game in hand of 4th-placed Rugby.

Halifax are fighting at the bottom end of the table and currently sit 11th, which is one of the two relegation spots.

The west Yorkshire outfit have seven points from their 20 outings, although a hint of encouragement is that their only two victories have come in their last three matches.

After beating Hull City 2-1 thanks to a 99th minute winner from Danielle Witham on Thursday 27th March, they recorded another away victory over bottom-of-the-table Stourbridge three days later.

A quick-fire brace from Chloe Fisher gave Rob Mitchell’s side control in the Midlands, and after Lizzie Bennett-Steele pulled one back, Sarah Hassanin struck in the closing stages to confirm all three points.

Mitchell has been in charge ever since the Club was set up as Brighouse Town in 2013, but this will be one of his last matches in charge having announced his decision to move on at the end of the season.

Burnley were comfortable victors in the reverse fixture at the Young Guns Arena in Tadcaster back in February.

It ended 7-0 on the day, with Heidi Logan and Claudia Walker both scoring braces. Richards, Laura Elford and Grace Palmer also found the back of the net on a productive day for the Clarets.

Tickets for this match at the Daisy Communications Arena (BB9 7BN) can be purchased on the day, although Burnley season ticket holders can get in for free by showing it at the turnstiles.

Other adults are £5, while concessions are £2.
