Burnley FC Women are at home on Sunday afternoon – 19th March – when Derby County make the trip to the County Ground in Leyland for a meeting in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League (2pm KO).
The Ewe Rams’ visit will be a second home game of the week for Jay Bradford’s side, who beat Brighouse Town 5-1 on Wednesday night, scoring five goals for the second game running and making it five wins in succession.
Millie Ravening netted a brace against Town, while Evie Priestley, Leah Embley & Dom Cooper all also got on the scoresheet.
Those three points see Burnley remain 3rd in the league table, now a point behind Wolves in 2rd who have played a game more. League leaders Forest, who have played two more than the Clarets, have four more points on the board.
Sunday’s game provides one of those games in hand with the current top two not in action over the course of the weekend. Opponents Derby - who finished 2nd last season - provide a stern test of their own, sitting just below the top three sides in 4th on 32 points from 16 games at the time of writing,
Managed by Sam Griffiths, County are on a six-game winning streak, victorious in every game they’ve played since being beaten by Burnley in the League Cup back in early December.
The Ewe Rams last beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 on home soil a fortnight ago, when substitute Camille Jenkins came off the bench to net a late winner.
When Griffith’s side make the trip to Leyland this weekend, it’ll be a third meeting between themselves and the Claret Women this season.
Both previous have ended 3-2 in favour of Burnley, both have been away from home, and both have brought about a winner in time added on at the end of the game.
The pair first met this term on the opening day of the campaign when Dom Cooper netted in the 97th minute to seal all three points having twice trailed against a Derby side who last season finished 2nd.
And as previously alluded to, Burnley also made the trip to Derbyshire in the FA Women’s National League Cup back in December. That afternoon, having twice been pegged back from a winning position, Evie Priestley struck in the 96th minute to seal progression into the next round.
At the third – and final – meeting this season to come on Sunday, entry will be free to all.
