Burnley FC Women are on their travels in midweek for the second time this season as they face Brighouse Town Women at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium on Wednesday evening (October 12) in a 19:45 KO.
Jonathan Morgan’s side’s only previous midweek outing came at the end of August, when they ran out 4-2 winners away against AFC Fylde Women to claim the North West bragging rights in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League.
This time around, the Claret Women are in a war of the roses, and it comes just three days after their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest Women at the County Ground, Leyland. Dropping points for only the second time this season so far, Burnley were trailing to Charlotte Greengrass’ opener 17 minutes in, but Millie Ravening popped up with her ninth goal of the campaign 12 minutes from time to salvage a point and the side’s unbeaten record this term.
Morgan’s side remain top of the table, and discovered their opponents in the First Round Proper of the League Cup earlier on today. A trip to Liverpool Feds on October 30 is to come in that competition, but for now, focus remains on the league and Brighouse who sit 9th.
Town have endured a difficult start to the season under boss Rob Mitchell, taking six points from their opening seven league games.
Wednesday’s match will be their second at home in three days having lost out 1-0 to Derby County Women on Sunday. Amy Sims’ goal midway through the second half was enough for the Ewe Rams to take all three points.
Burnley head over the Pennines not only in the hunt of getting back to winning ways, but also of putting last season’s wrongs right after Brighouse completed the double over the Clarets.
In October 2021, a single goal was enough for Town to take victory at the County Ground while back in March, they ran out 3-1 winners over the Pennines when Olivia Wilson netted a late consolation goal.
Both of those came on sodden nights, with the latter still Burnley’s only defeat in all competitions this calendar year.
For any supporters who wish to make the midweek trip to Yorkshire, please note that the postcode for the ground is HX3 8BG. Entry, which is payable on the gate, will cost £5 for Adults & £3 for Concessions.
