Burnley Women continued their pre-season schedule with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Everton on Friday afternoon.

It finished 0-0 against the Barclays Women’s Super League outfit, with a format of three 30-minute halves allowing experimentation and the opportunity to get valuable minutes into all players’ legs.

Jackie Bachteler named a side similar to the one that started against Valencia last week, with four changes being the introductions of Maddi Wilde, Deanna Cooper, Jamie Finn, and Claudia Mummery-Walker.

Both teams had sighters at goal in the opening three minutes, with Everton’s Yuka Momiki firing wide and Charlie Wellings forcing Courtney Brosnan into action.

There was no lack of tenacity and energy on a warm day at Burnley Training Centre and Emma Siddall thought she’d broken the deadlock shortly before the end of the first 30, but her close-range finish was called offside.

Bachteler made her first two changes in the 45th minute, replacing Tyler Toland and Finn with Brenna McPartlan and Millie Chandarana respectively.

There wasn’t much in the way of goal mouth action at either end before the hour mark, in truth, and the two teams took the opportunity to reset ahead of the final third.

There were eight Burnley changes at that point with Kirstie Levell coming in to keep goal and Jade Richards, Jessica Hennessy, and Kiera Sena joining the defence.

Brooke Cairns slotted into midfield, while a trialist and Charlie Chadwick flanked new addition Rachel Williams up front.

Levell was forced into action twice within four minutes, reacting quickly to keep out two efforts from Noemie Mouchon.

The Clarets had to withstand prolonged spells of pressure and did so valiantly, putting in blocks and tackles across the back line.

That persistence almost produced a winning goal at the other end, when McPartlan unleashed a powerful effort from 20 yards that struck the bar and agonisingly evaded her team-mates in the box.

The remaining minutes passed without much incident of note, allowing Bachteler’s side to carry on their fine defensive record from last season.
