Josh Laurent is relishing the return of playing competitive football again at Turf Moor this weekend and is keen to get off to a winning start, as the Clarets prepare to take on Notts County in the Carabao Cup first round.

Speaking to the media ahead of the cup tie with the Sky Bet League one opponents, Laurent highlighted the importance of starting the season with a victory and a strong performance, but is well aware of the test that the Magpies will bring to Lancashire.

STARTING STRONG

"This weekend is the most important fixture for us right now, full focus is on getting through to the next round, before we even think about starting the Championship next week.

"We want to start the season right, with a good result and a good performance for the fans at Turf Moor, but we also know it's not just as simple as that.

"They will come here well up for it and we're going to need to outwork them, outrun them and outplay them to really put our marker down, but we cannot underestimate them at all.

"We have to bring that winning feeling back and this is our first opportunity of the season to do that, back at home in front of our fans and we're all looking forward to getting back to it."

PRE-SEASON REVIEW

"It's been really good for us, seeing different parts of the world, playing very good opposition, we've enjoyed it.

"Obviously no pre-season game can replicate the a real game, but we have played some really good sides and come up against some top players, so it's been very useful for us all.

"I think all the boys are ready now to kick off the season, everyone has worked really hard over the summer and pre-season, now it's time to get going again."

THE FIRST MONTH UNDER NICKY HAYEN

"Obviously every coach has his different values, different tactics and playing styles, so pre-season was just about adjusting to that and learning how he wants us to play.

"It's been different and we've enjoyed it, but we know what he wants from us and we know what we need to do to succeed."
