Burnley booked their place in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Peterborough United on Sunday afternoon.

Claudia Walker’s brace was accompanied by further strikes from Charlie Chadwick, Yana Daniëls, Millie Ravening, Charley Docherty and Emma Siddall at the County Ground in Leyland.

It was an unchanged starting XI from last week’s 3-1 league victory at Middlesbrough, with Teesside goal-scorers Thea Paul, Docherty and Chadwick all retaining their places.

The allowance of nine substitutes saw Heidi and Dee Bradley return to the matchday squad, with Mel Lawley, Aimee Kelly and Danielle Maxwell providing further attacking options.

Burnley set off on the front foot from the off as Walker fired over from the edge and Daniëls tested Peterborough ‘keeper Neive Corry in the opening 10 minutes.

Corry proved to be a thorn in the Clarets’ side and produced two saves low to her left to deny Walker again, but the deadlock was broken in the 42nd minute.

Ravening swept the ball wide left to Chadwick and the number 19 struck a powerful effort for her 14th goal of the season in all competitions.

It was 2-0 in the first minute of stoppage-time when a corner was played short to Millie Chandarana, who crossed for Daniëls to loop a header over the ‘keeper from deep.

The Clarets emerged from their half-time team talk with added oomph and after Daniëls was fouled in the area, Ravening’s composed penalty extended the lead to three with 50 on the clock.

Lou Roberts made her first change of the afternoon straight after, with Lawley replacing Chadwick.

Burnley’s fourth was slightly fortuitous in the fact that a Ravening volley hit Docherty and nestled into the bottom right corner.

Two further substitutions followed, with centre-backs Jasmine Matthews and Jade Richards making way for Bradley and Naomi Hartley respectively.

The fifth goal showed a different side to the Clarets’ play, with Ravening flicking an excellent long pass through for Walker. The latter’s bravery saw her get to the ball and produce a fine lob home.

Roberts’ final two switches saw Louise McDaniel come on for Docherty and Maxwell replace Daniëls, and the last two goals came within six minutes of each other after the 70th minute.

The first was probably the best of the day – a 35-yard rocket into the top left corner from Siddall – and Walker notched her second with a smart finish after good work from Maxwell.

The Clarets could perhaps have added to their tally in the closing stages but their impressive Adobe Women’s FA Cup record now stands at 23 goals scored and none conceded in three outings.
