After six consecutive games on the road, albeit at an alternate venue, Burnley FC Women have a home game on Sunday afternoon – 18th December – when they host Norwich City Women at the Project Solar Stadium in the Third Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup (2pm KO).
The tie had been scheduled to be played seven days prior, but was postponed following frozen pitches at both Broadhurst Park & the Project Solar Stadium with the Club trying everything possible to get the game on including venue changes.
Jonathan Morgan’s side have won each of their last six away from home, including last time out in the League Cup at Derby County Women, progressing into the Quarter-Finals of that competition courtesy of a dramatic 3-2 win.
Claret Women host Ewe Rams in second home game of the week
Twice pegged back from a winning position after goals from Sarah Greenhalgh & Amaya Coleman-Evans, Burnley – for the second time this campaign – grabbed the winner with the last kick of the game at the Don Amott Arena when Evie Priestley rounded the ‘keeper to slot home into an empty net in the 96th minute.
And having made it into the last eight of the League Cup, the focus now turns back to the FA Cup, in which the Claret Women have already progressed through the two previous rounds.
First beating Tranmere Rovers Women 9-0 in Merseyside, they then got the better of Cheadle Town Stingers Women in Greater Manchester with a narrow 1-0 win thanks to Millie Ravening’s second half-strike.
Both of those sides ply their trade in the fifth-tier, two below Burnley, and the opposition this time around takes a step up with the Canaries from the Division One South East of the FA Women’s National League in which they sit 2nd at the time of writing.
Managed by ex-Leyton Orient player Shaun Howes, Norwich have had to go through an additional game in the FA Cup to get to this stage, progressing through the Third Qualifying Round as well as the previous two ‘Proper’ rounds.
Along the way, they’ve beaten Cambridge United Women 4-1 & Enfield Town Ladies 2-0 as well as seeing off Sutton Coldfield Town Ladies 3-2 in the previous round.
The winner on Sunday will host Cardiff City Ladies in the Fourth Round of the competition, and entry at the Solar Project Stadium (SK14 5PL) will cost £3 for adults with concessions free of charge. We hope to see you there.
