Welcome back everybody, for an afternoon of football here at Turf Moor. Today, we return to league action as we welcome Middlesbrough to Lancashire.
We’re back on home turf following Sunday’s win at QPR. It was a fantastic performance from the team, with three fabulous goals and another clean sheet. I was pleased that following the break, the team came back full of energy and credit to the players, Vincent and his coaching staff for another great result.
Also, a big thank you to the travelling fans who made the journey to Loftus Road. The away support this season has been brilliant, and I hope securing the three points in style meant you all went home happy.
Speaking of the break, I managed to attend some World Cup games in Qatar, and it was wonderful to see the Claret contingency, including Connor Roberts, Anass Zaroury and Wout Weghorst representing their countries at the tournament. To see our players on the worldwide stage is very special indeed.
It’s mid-December and Christmas is not too far away. In addition to the celebrations, this time of year is for giving, and, as a football club embedded in the heart of our community, off the pitch it was important for us to spread some festive cheer in the run up to the big day.
During the past week, players from our men’s first team, women and academy sides, have been visiting several local community projects and organisations to support those in need. From Burnley and Blackburn hospitals to drop off presents, to Pendleside Hospice to meet staff and residents, as a Club it’s imperative for us to give back.
The U21s squad stopped by Burnley FC in the Community’s Extra Time & Dementia Café Christmas Party, and, especially during these challenging times, the charity’s foodbank continues to experience increased demand. Nathan Tella and Ian Maatsen visited the facility to make a donation and find out what a lifeline it is for local people in need of support.
The players making visits such as this are important to us, and together we will continue to play our part in supporting the town.
Finally, today’s fixture is our final home game before Christmas, and I want to take the opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas with your families and loved ones. Have a safe and happy holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back on the 27th December!
Up the Clarets!
Alan
