Burnley FC Women are on their travels this weekend, as they face Chorley Women FC in the Lancashire FA Women's Challenge Cup Quarter Final.
The Women’s Challenge Cup was established in 1994/95 and is competed for by women’s teams across Lancashire, tier three and below.
The visiting team have started the new year positively with consecutive league wins against Middlesbrough and Sheffield FC Women. The squad have been on firing form climbing to third in the table, securing the points in the Northeast with a 3-1 win and enjoying a 6-1 win at home last weekend.
Goal scorers at the weekend included Evie Priestley, Sarah Greenhalgh, and Dom Cooper and Courtney Willis both secured braces, and all will be keen to be back on the scoresheet in the Quarter Final on Sunday.
Chorley, who compete in the league below the Clarets, the FA Women’s National League Division One North, are currently seventh in the table. The team drew with Chester le Street Town last weekend in their first league fixture of 2022.
The two sides are familiar to each other, having competed in the Division One North before the Clarets were promoted in the 2018/19 season.
Ahead of the game, Burnley FC Women Assistant Manager, Amanda Goodwin said: “We take each game as it comes and how we’ve been working this week is based upon us and how we want to play.
“We go into the game firing, with a game plan. We know it’s going to be tough against Chorley so we’re going to have to work hard and be on it. Ultimately, it’s down to us and how we perform on the day. We’re really looking forward to it though, it’ll be a little bit of a derby for us.”
Other games in the Quarter Final of the competition, taking place this Sunday, are Haslingden Ladies v Fleetwood Town Wrens, Penwortham Town Ladies v Fylde Women FC and West Didsbury & Chorlton Women v Wigan Athletic Ladies.
The game will take place on Sunday 23rd January at Coppull United FC, Blainscough Park, PR7 5EJ, KO 2pm. Adults £3 and u16s free.
