Michael Jackson’s U23 side are on the road oncemore as they face Norwich City on Friday night, the second of three consecutive away games for the Clarets in a period of seven days.
Having taken a well-earned point from their meeting with Wolves at Aggborough – the home of Kidderminster Harriers – on Monday evening, Burnley extended their unbeaten run to four matches and currently sit sixth in the Premier League 2, Division 2 table.
Defender Finn Armstrong scored his first goal at U23 put Jackson’s side ahead midway through the first half against the Wanderers, but the hosts fought back to level after the restart and denied the Clarets victory.
Nonetheless, Burnley are level on points with Newcastle United who occupy the final play-off spot in the league table at the time of writing and a positive result in Norfolk would see the Clarets leapfrog the Magpies at least temporarily.
Also in the play-off mix however are Friday’s opponents, Norwich. Alan Neilson’s outfit currently sit third, three points better off than Burnley with a better goal difference.
Like the Clarets, Norwich’s last outing came on Monday, and it ended in success for the Canaries as they claimed a 3-1 win at home to Reading in the Premier League Cup.
Their previous run out in league action ended in defeat though, losing 3-2 away at Nottingham Forest and conceding two second half goals to let a 2-1 advantage slip.
And ahead of their second-longest league trip of the campaign when they head to Norwich’s Lotus Training Centre, Jackson’s side can take inspiration from their previous meetings with the Canaries.
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, they ran out 4-3 winners at Gawthorpe with four different goalscorers finding the back of the net.
Michael Mellon, Joe McGlynn and Ne-Jai Tucker were all on the scoresheet as well as defender Jacob Bedeau who is currently out on loan with EFL League Two side Morecambe.
The Clarets also picked up draws against the Canaries in both April 2021 (2-2) and November 2020 (0-0).
As with all of their games this season, coverage of Burnley’s trip to Norfolk on Friday, January 21 – which is scheduled for a 7PM kick-off - will be available on Twitter via @ClaretsAcademy.
Following this, Burnley are then back in East England on Monday, January 24 as they travel to Peterborough United in the Premier League Cup. That one is scheduled for a 1PM kick-off.
