Last week, members of our women’s team squad visited three of Burnley FC in the Community’s partner primary schools to talk about the importance of female involvement in sports.

In the morning, Naomi Hartley and Brenna McPartlan visited Water Primary School in Rossendale and St John the Baptist RC Primary in Padiham.

Naoisha McAloon and Claudia Walker followed suit in the afternoon, heading to Heasandford Primary in Burnley.

All players took the time to explain their background and journeys into the professional game, alongside a presentation from BFCitC’s Education Manager Lianne Bradford on the continued growth of the women’s game.

There was also an opportunity for the children to quiz the players, with topics covered including how the team have been getting on this season and goal celebrations.

It was then time to head outside for a physical activity, with Hartley, McPartlan, McAloon and Walker playing football and passing on words of advice to the young people.

Ahead of the Clarets’ return to Turf Moor this Saturday, the players were also able to give out complimentary tickets to the schools.

Speaking about the day, Northern Ireland international McPartlan said: “It was really nice!

“The kids were really excited to see us and had so many different and interesting questions.

“They were all really enthusiastic about Burnley and the football club, so it would be great to see some of them cheering us on against Stoke.”

One of the children at St John the Baptist said: “Brenna and Naomi coming made me happy.

“I got to ask them how many goals they’ve scored this season – one of them said two and the other said five.”
