Burnley FC Women have another achievement to reflect upon this season with, ending as the top goalscorers in the FA Women’s National League North.
In their first full season being integrated officially with the club, the Claret Women found the back of the net 70 times in the league alone over the course of 24 matches, nine more than second-highest scorers Wolverhampton Wanderers Women and 16 more than third-highest Huddersfield Town Women.
They also picked up the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup trophy back in March, beating AFC Fylde Women 4-1 in the final at the County Ground, a promising sign for the future of the team.
Impressively, beating Middlesbrough Women 6-1 on the final day of the season last weekend, Burnley maintained their record of just one defeat in all competitions since the turn of the calendar year.
It is that form which has propelled them to a 4th-place finish in the FA Women’s National League North and a top spot in the scoring rankings.
Netting 24 goals in their opening 12 league matches of the season up to Christmas – an average of two per game – the Claret Women took 17 points and had lost five times, failing to score twice.
In their remaining 12 league outings, the side rarely faltered and hit an impressive 46 goals (at an average of 3.83 per game), taking 29 points and failing to score only once in a 0-0 draw away against Huddersfield Town Women.
Over the course of the campaign, as may be expected given the tally racked up, the Claret Women were free-scoring on many occasions.
In fact, in terms of single figures, only two digits – five and nine – weren’t registered over the 24 league games.

Nine was achieved, though that came in the semi-final of the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup with a 9-0 thumping of Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies.
Three was the magic number for the Claret Women in the league, scoring that amount six times including one of the most memorable games of the campaign, beating eventual champions Wolverhampton Wanderers Women 3-0 in March.
That proved to be their only league defeat all season and helped the goalkeeping department of Lauren Bracewell & Lucy Farrell to one of their 10 FA Women’s National League North clean sheets.
Elsewhere, Burnley also found time to net six times on three separate occasions while seven also came in a whitewash against Hull City Ladies in early April.
And the biggest number of goals in a single game was still to come, winning 8-0 away against West Bromwich Albion Women on April 24.
Clarets fan and striker Evie Priestley – who ended the season as the FA Women’s National League North’s joint-second top scorer with 16 – was on target in the Midlands that day, while midfielder Millie Ravening also scored a hat-trick.
Ravening – along with former Liverpool midfielder Courtney Willis – finished joint-eighth in the league’s goalscoring charts on 12, making the Clarets the only club in the league to have three separate players in the top 10.
With the trio on the scoresheet 40 times between them, accumulating for just over 57% of the team’s goals in the league this season, the remaining 30 were split between eight other players making it 11 different scorers in total as follows:
Evie Priestley – 16
Millie Ravening – 12
Courtney Willis – 12
Nic Worthington – 9
Sarah Greenalgh – 5
Dom Cooper – 4
Lizzy Hamer – 4
Katie Thomas – 4
Olivia Wilson – 2
Meg Dykes – 1
Hollie Kelsh – 1
