Defender previews Women’s trip to Forest

Tilly Wilkes has described this afternoon’s game against Nottingham Forest as an ‘exciting’ challenge, highlighting the magnitude of the occasion as something she and her team-mates will relish.

Burnley Women take on the Reds at the City Ground at 2pm, with three valuable Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League points up for grabs.

“I’m excited!” the defender said.

“It’s the kind of the game that everybody’s had their eye on and a great one to have after Wolves as we try and get back on track.

“Everyone’s aware of how important the game is – not just in terms of who we’re playing, but in terms of the league standings and how the season’s going to go.”

Wilkes has been a regular at left-back this season, continuing in the role she played last term.

The Clarets’ back line had a revamp over the summer, with the likes of Jade Richards and Charley Docherty coming into the Club.

“The additions have only improved our back line and the depth that we have is probably the best in our league.

“Jade and Dochs (Docherty) in particular have brought some great experience with the leagues they’ve played in too, and it’s something that most of us in the back line don’t have or wouldn’t know so it’s helped us greatly.“

Forest are expected to provide a stern test, having won all four of their league matches to date with a goal difference of 24.

Wilkes continued: “Both games last season were a battle.

“We’re two really well coached teams and that made for tough games mentally, physically and psychologically.

“I think they’ve now got a lot more experience than they did last year, too. They’re in a better place on that front and they’ve been able to get the right people in the places that they were a bit weaker last year.

“They’re a super strong team, but it’s a game that everybody should be excited about and we shouldn’t shy away from it.

“This shouldn’t be any different to how we view any other games, but we should see this as a chance to prove ourselves and put a marker down. We’re in a good place and hopefully we see that.”

Tickets for the match at the City Ground are available to purchase online and are priced at £10 for adults, £8 for over 65s, 14-17 year-olds and students, and £6 for children aged 4-13.
