As weeks go Luca Koleosho has had a good one! Having signed a new five-year contract earlier in the week, a goal on Saturday and his birthday on Sunday topped off a special seven days for the young forward.
His first half strike was the difference at Elland Road in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off as Scott Parker's men picked up a valuable three points on the road.
Speaking after the game the goalscorer said: "It was a fight for 90 minutes! The team pulled through, was able to take three points, go home and make the fans happy.
“It felt great [to score]! Just being able to play and then to get another goal, I’m happy. To help the team and to contribute it’s a really amazing feeling.”
It was a battling showing from the visitors with goalkeeper James Trafford called into action to keep the home side out. How pleased was Koleosho with the defensive side of the display too?
“Very! At the end of the day we knew what type of game it was going to be and the mentality we had to have. We needed to fight as a unit and to be able to pull through, it was a well-deserved win.”
Leeds United were unbeaten ahead of the game, does Koleosho feel that the victory is Burnley setting down a marker for the rest of the league?
“I think so. They’re a really tough opponent, unbeaten, and to come here after the games we had to really make a statement, it’s a really important win for us.”
Talking of his positive week, it was made even more special with his parents in attendance having flown over to watch the game.
“It’s been a great week! We were able to get the win, three points, so I’m going to enjoy it for sure! My parents are here too, so I had to pull through, make them proud and play well.”
And on his celebrations in front of the travelling Clarets...
“Yes [they were fantastic], they had us switch sides so as soon as I scored, I knew exactly where to go. The whole team was with me, so it felt great!”
