Striker spoke after finding the net once more in Latics game

Joe Westley is hoping to ‘get goals in every game’ as he continues his great start to the season, by netting for the ninth time in eight matches.

The Clarets recorded their third league win of the season against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, battling to a 1-0 victory.

And Westley, once again on the scoresheet, expressed his delight at finding the back of the net once more.

The forward said: “I thought it was a scrappy game to be honest, I don’t think we ever really got control of the game, but sometimes, as the manager said after the game, games are like that, it’s just about how you see them out.

“Every game I want to get goals, I want to help the team win and again, today, another goal and another step in the right direction for the team.

“Obviously it was good to score before half time and I thought we were excellent at seeing the game out.

“It was a great three points, and I’m delighted to get the goal.”

As well as scoring, Westley was forced into defensive action as Burnley found themselves facing a barrage of attacks in the second half.

The forward praised his defence in their ‘brave and relentless’ approach to see the game out following a tricky second 45.

He added: “They had the better of the game in the second half, so we had to be brave and relentless in our defending, to make sure we didn’t concede goals, and everyone on the pitch, including the back four, was brilliant.
