Skipper set for prolonged period on the sidelines

Captain Josh Cullen believes the Clarets are in a good position ahead of this weekend's trip to the London Stadium and the midfielder is pleased with the team's start to life in the 2025/26 campaign.

Saturday will see Cullen return to West Ham, after spending over 15 years with the Irons, but the skipper has full focus on making it a happy return and has all eyes on claiming three points to make it three wins out of four in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of the trip down south, the Ireland international said: "Look, we know the challenge we're going to be up against and they will want to use that result from last weekend as a turning point in the season.

"We are aware of the quality within their squad and obviously it's a new manager from this season, so there will still be a point of adapting to that and the changes.

"However, we also go there wanting to push on ourselves and get the win. We know we're in a fight and it's a fight for everyone in this league and we want it to be a successful one."

The captain continued: "Winning gives you belief and there is no point playing well in spells of games or for periods and not getting anything to show for it.

"Before last weekend's defeat to Arsenal, we had two consecutive wins to our name and it gives you confidence naturally that we know we can get results and wins on the board.

"We feel like we're in a good place where we are right now, over the 10 games we have developed as a team, from the first game of the season to where we are now and we just need to keep pushing in the right direction."

The Clarets currently sit 17th in the league table, three points above the relegation zone, despite a challenging run of fixtures in the opening 10 games and Cullen admits the team can be 'satisfied' with their start.

"I think in the main when you look at it as a whole picture, I think we can be satisfied with our start. We're definitely not pleased with every single aspect or certain periods, but overall I think we can be.

"We have to keep improving every week and every game, we want to be taking points off some of the bigger sides and we've been close on a couple of occasions this season already.

"It's been a tough start on paper, but all games in this league are and we certainly aren't thinking we have done enough or anything like that, but we can definitely take positives and be pleased with the overall start to life."
