Midfielder previews trip to Staffordshire

Brenna McPartlan says she and her Burnley Women team-mates are relishing the challenge of taking on Stoke City in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League this afternoon.

The Clarets head into the game in fine form, winning all three of their matches in all competitions this season.

Stoke will be similarly confident following back-to-back wins over Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and McPartlan, for whom matchday is also her 25th birthday, thinks that will create an intriguing matchup.

“We’re all really excited to play against Stoke this weekend,” she said.

“They’re a team that are going to push towards the top end of the table this season so it should be a good game.

“They were very good last year and a few of our former team-mates have now joined them, so they’ve improved even more. We’re expecting a really good fight.”

McPartlan has been a key figure in Rebecca Sawiuk’s side this term, playing the entirety of and scoring in both league matches. Her goal against Stourbridge came from the penalty spot.

“It’s been a good start to the season, both for the team and for me personally,” she continued.

“Of course, I always want to score but it doesn’t really matter who scores – we’ll take any goal!

“I’ve taken penalties at different teams and it’s something I’m prepared for and practice. If we get one, I’m always ready for it. I enjoy the pressure of them too, because pressure’s a good thing.”

This Stoke fixture represents the end of a busy three-game week, but the Northern Ireland international says that the schedule hasn’t effected the high spirits within the camp.

“The mood’s great, especially coming off a midweek win in the cup.

“There were a few changes against Fylde, which shows the depth we have in the squad. Anybody can start and finish games as strongly as each other.

“We treat every game as must win and Stoke will be no different.”

The Potters' Clayton Wood Training Ground (ST4 6NL) is the venue and fans are welcome to attend, with tickets available to purchase on the day at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions and children.

It is important to note that Stoke are accepting cash only.
