Sitting in fourth place in the Championship after losing only their first game in ten, but the Clarets’ Head Coach is still setting his sights on being better.
“We’ve let in just six goals this year and that’s been the incredible foundation of our team, but I always look to develop teams and clubs for the long term.
“Seventeen players left the football club before the window closed. Sixteen players came in. We’ve given ten plus debuts this season and we’re only thirteen games in. That’s some wholesale changes!
“At times it was very challenging. Only seven weeks ago we were sitting here and we were in what was probably an unprecedented position. Fast forward to now and the players we have brought in are working tirelessly. We’re here constantly looking to develop every single one of them and these boys are giving their absolute all.”
Parker is under no illusion how tough the task is and appreciates the team need to get back to scoring goals again.
“There’s no magic wand. When you have such a big transition in terms of what’s happened here you have to strip this right back. That’s where we were, building a house and starting at foundation level. We have to put some real concrete foundations in for the whole of the football club to know we can get to where we need to get to.
“We can try and skip things, try and take short cuts – but you do that and it comes back to bite you. You face troubles down the road. We’re building a culture and environment here which is one of pure solidarity and one which we’re all on the same page. That box has firmly been ticked.
“It’s also clear we have some issues with our attacking side of the game and we are focussing on that more than ever. Seventy or eighty per cent of our training is based in the final third, trying to improve, trying to be the team that we all want to be. Trust me, we want to be a dynamic, free flowing football team.
“Every one of the centre forwards wants to score goals more than anyone. That takes time on the grass and we have a bunch of men who are willing to do that. Every single one of those boys that puts the shirt on WANTS to put that shirt on.
“We now have a group of men that want to give absolutely everything for this football club and want to keep improving. With that culture and mentality, in life as well as football, we have a chance.”
