Players support Burnley FC in the Community’s Premier League Inspires programme

Year 11 pupil Bailey from All Saints’ Roman Catholic High School received a shock recently, when his favourite player Luca Koleosho, and teammate CJ Egan-Riley surprised him at school.

Bailey takes part in the Premier League Inspires programme which is delivered at the high school in Rawtenstall by the Club’s official charity Burnley FC in the Community.

Premier League Inspires is an education programme developed by the Premier League and professional football clubs aimed at young people that are struggling with any aspect of school, from behaviour to confidence, supporting them as they move through the education system and early adulthood.

Alongside All Saints’ the charity currently delivers the programme in seven secondary schools across Burnley and the surrounding areas.

Targeted Intervention Manager at Burnley FC in the Community Darcie McLaren-Bailey nominated Bailey for the surprise as recognition for his hard work on the programme and whilst they were there the players also took the time to join Bailey and some more pupils to take part in games and sign autographs.

Talking about the impact of the visit Koleosho said: “I think it’s important that the team and the players connect within their community, and it makes the love for the Club and for everyone here much stronger.”

Egan-Riley added: “The football club is nothing without the fans and the community, so the more that we can give back to them, it goes hand in hand really. If we grow, they grow. So, for sure visits such as this are important.”

There was plenty of excitement amongst Bailey and the pupils at All Saints’ on the day and Darcie McLaren-Bailey knows just how much the appearance meant to everybody at the school.

“Bailey is one of my participants on the programme. He is the biggest Burnley fan that I have ever met! So, CJ and Luca came and surprised him mid-interview. It’s great for them to be onboard and see the work that we’re doing.”
