Burnley Women kick start their pre-season schedule with a friendly against Valencia CF Femenino on Wednesday evening, and it’s a fixture that Charlie Wellings is very much looking forward to.

Kick-off at the Antonio Puchades Stadium is 7pm local time and 6pm BST, with any Spanish-based Clarets welcome to attend for free.

The team arrived at their Spanish training base on Sunday night, and reflecting on her time away so far, Wellings said: “It’s been really good.

“I think coming away on trips like this always brings the group a lot closer together, and that’s exactly what we need at this point of pre-season to gel as quickly as possible.

“Pre-season’s always about getting the legs going again and getting fitter ahead of the new season.

“Once all the testing’s done and out of the way, it’s all about getting back onto the pitch – which is a lo

t nicer for us!”

Wellings joined the Club earlier this summer, having spent last season at fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Nottingham Forest.

She could make her Clarets debut against Valencia, a Club who are also riding the crest of a wave following their promotion to the Spanish top division.

“Everybody always wants to get straight into the games and not do as much running, so we’re all looking forward to it,” Wellings continued.

“We

’re prepping for it as best as we can out here, with the heat as well. It will be a good test for us.

“We want that challenge early on as well. It’s important for us to have a lot of learnings in this environment.

“It’s going to be difficult, but as long as we can get each other through it, stick together, and see out the game plan, we’ll have a good game.”
