Head Coach Scott Parker admitted there was a feeling of 'relief' following Sunday's late victory over Swansea City at Turf Moor thanks to Jay Rodriguez's late penalty.
Burnley put in an impressive display against the Swans and after applying late pressure on the visitors, it paid off when the hosts were awarded a spot-kick for a handball and Rodriguez was there to slam home to seal all three points.
Speaking post-match, Parker said: “There’s definitely a sense of relief if we’re being honest. I thought we were very good today, our general all-round game. In the first-half they caused us some problems, but the game ebbs and flows and we probably lacked a little bit of an intensity about us.
“Maybe that was down to a three-game week. We’ve probably been on the wrong end of the fixture schedule this week. That’s not an excuse, but it’s a quick turnaround playing on a Sunday after a Thursday game when Swansea played on Tuesday, so they had a few days on us and you probably saw that a little bit.
“Half-time comes and there wasn’t much detail from my side in terms of tactical elements, it was more about the psychological element and what we needed to bring.
“I thought we were every bit of that, because the second-half was a totally different game. They’re a team that want to play, but we’ve reduced them to going a bit long.
“In terms of the general numbers, we had 20 shots, seven on target, we’re moving in the right direction and those numbers are very pleasing.
“Of course, there’s no denying when you get into the back end of the game you’re starting to think it might be another day where you only come away with a draw, but anyone watching that game and anyone looking at the general numbers, we were well worthy of it.”
Rodriguez was introduced in the second-half as a substitute and Parker had high praise for the winning goalscorer's 'bravery and courage' to step up and fire home the winning goal in stoppage time.
“He’s the designated penalty taker. If he’s on the pitch, he takes the penalty. If you want to describe the word ‘professional’, Jay Rodriguez is every bit of that. He is the heart and soul, he bleeds everything Burnley Football Club is.
“The bravery and courage, when there’s only a few seconds left on the clock, to go and step up to take that penalty. One to have that courage, put his hand up and take it, but to then execute it, he deserves every bit of that.
“He’s been nothing short of incredible since we’ve stepped in here. He bleeds everything what this football club represents and what it’s about.
“I’m so pleased for him. One because he’s executed it and we’ve got three points, but more importantly he’s not had a lot of game time, so I’m pleased he managed to get the winning goal.
“You guys have seen for no doubt many, many years, but he’s done it again which is pleasing.”
When asked for an update on the squad's injury list, Parker explained: “Lyle (Foster) will still be a few weeks. He had a big injury, so it will be a few weeks, but Joe Worrall is in the right place.
“We’ve got some big players on the treatment table, Aaron Ramsey, Jordan Beyer, Nathan Redmond. They’re moving in the right direction and hopefully we can get them back and they can also help and add to what we need.”
