Jay Rodriguez said the Clarets deserved Sunday's win over Swansea City at Turf Moor and there's no better feeling than scoring for his boyhood team.
There was late drama as the substitute's 94th minute penalty clinched all three points on a rainy afternoon in Lancashire.
“It was a tough game. It’s always a tough game against Swansea, the way they play, I think they’re a great team, with great players.
“It’s been a hard week for us in terms of the travel, but for us to stick to it to the end, I think we deserved that. The lads, the staff, the fans, everyone involved deserved that win. It’s a good thing to go into the international break with the win.”
As he stepped up and waited on the spot, did facing former teammate Lawrence Vigouroux add any additional pressure?
“It did a little bit because I think I speak on behalf of the lads in there that everyone loves Vigs, he’s a great guy. But for me it was the game he had today, you had a feeling that he was going to save everything, he was probably the Man of the Match. It’s great to see him do so well, obviously not against us!
“It does play a part in it though; I try and analyse what keepers do. I’ve done a little bit of work with the keepers and the keeper coach which has been brilliant. So, it’s been something that’s on my mind, however you’ve just got to stay cool and hit the ball clean.”

Following some frustrating recent results for the Clarets the 35-year-old was pleased to see the squad stick to the task of fighting until the very end.
“I think that’s the minimum requirement for us, to fight right until the end and I think you see that with every single lad, the lads on the bench, the whole squad, that’s what we do. That’s how we train, that’s what’s been bred into us, that’s the team that we want to be, to fight until the end no matter what the scoreline is. We keep working to get what we want, and I think it was well deserved that we stuck with it.”
Burnley born and bred, experienced Rodriguez has scored across 17 seasons. Is there a more special feeling to him than finding the back of the net?
“No, it’s a special feeling, I think I probably said the same 17 years ago, for me that’s the thing that I carry on working on. I do a lot of work for myself in terms of keeping myself prepared ready for anytime I’m needed. I’m feeling great physically, it’s just obviously a lot more work to keep feeling great! But no, I feel good and they’re the moments you work hard for.”
With the Clarets heading into the international break with a hard-fought three points, Rodriguez was delighted to send the fans home happy.
“It’s massive, in the Championship three points is huge. I think for us to come here and play like we did, be really stubborn in terms of not getting beat, and going for the game. We deserved it at the end, I think it’s really nice for the fans to leave this afternoon being really happy with the win.
“We’ll continue to work hard this international break, ready for the next game.”
