Burnley Women travel to Halifax this afternoon, and despite the Blues’ league position, striker Claudia Walker knows she and her teammates are in for a tough match in Tadcaster.

Halifax are bottom of the table but put in a resolute defensive display against league leaders Nottingham Forest last week.

With the Clarets competing at the other end of the standings to the Yorkshire outfit, a victory is crucial but Walker admitted that won’t come easily.

“They’ll definitely put up a fight and we’ve got to be ready for that,” said the striker.

“They look quite organised and hard to break down, so like Haz (Amelia Hazard) said last week, it’s us against us and we’ve got to make sure we turn up.

“If we give as much energy as possible and perform as well as we can, hopefully we can get the result at the end of the day.”

The Clarets are in good form and Walker is performing similarly well on a personal level, managing four goals in her last three appearances.

Included in that run is a header that opened the scoring at Derby County last week as part of a 4-0 victory.

Reflecting on the trip to the Ewes, she continued: “It was a tough game and they posed a different challenge for us.

“Thankfully we got a goal and that helped us settle into the game a bit more because it was getting a bit scrappy with a lot of fouls for and against.

“I celebrated (my goal) a bit more because it was a header!

“I’d had a change in role on the set pieces and it just came to me. I didn’t know if it was going to reach but when it did I just thought ‘oh I’m in here’.

“At the end of the day we got the job done and we knew it was going to be a hard game, but a whole-team performance pulled us through.”

Before the end of the transfer window, Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk strengthened her squad with four new players.

One of those additions was fellow striker Louanne Worsey who joined on loan from Championship side Birmingham City, and Walker has an existing relationship with the 19-year-old.

“We played at Blues (Birmingham) together and I’ve known her for a while,” Walker continued.

“Hopefully she can start getting some minutes and it will be nice to link up with her again.

“She’s settled in well and, like all the other new signings, hopefully she can contribute towards the end goal.

“Each week we’re training harder, pushing each other and hopefully it will keep raising the standard.”

Tickets for the match at the YoungGunsFC Arena in Tadcaster (LS24 9AY) can be purchased on the day and are priced at £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and £2 for children.
