Brazilian on emphatic win over Hatters

Vitinho was full of praise for his teammates following Monday night's win at Kenilworth Road.

The Clarets returned to the Sky Bet Championship with a bang in their opening game of the campaign, with the Brazilian netting the fourth goal of the night and speaking afterwards he wanted to ensure teammate Lyle Foster won the plaudits for setting him up so well.

“It was a really good result. We came to this with good preparation for the game, good pre-season, and everything the manager asked for us to do today, we did.

“4-1, nice for everyone, nice for the supporters and we go again Saturday.”

The 25-year-old was full of energy under the lights in Bedfordshire and his hard work was rewarded with the final goal of the evening which he got to celebrate with the travelling Clarets.

“I’m very happy! Last season I didn’t score, and I was sad, but I knew it was coming. I work hard, today I had the chance, I took it and I’m happy.”

In the 80th minute a fantastic run from Lyle Foster saw the striker pick the ball up in his own half, drive through midfield and pick out Vitinho.

“I told him the goal is for him, it’s not mine because the work he did was brilliant, it was fantastic. And we’re going to need it this season.

“I’m happy for him, I’m happy for everyone, for the group.”

Full-back makes move to Brazil

The trip to Luton was Head Coach Scott Parker's first in charge, following big changes in the summer how important was securing such a resounding victory so early on?

“We’ve had four weeks with him I think, we changed a lot of things. We’re not like he wants yet but we’re going to be. But we started today and in time we’re going to be like he wants and we’re going to be good this season.”

In an evening of standout performances debutant Lucas Pires made an excellent start, assisting both Josh Brownhill and Dara O'Shea, and Vitinho has been helping his fellow Brazilian settle into life in Lancashire.

“Two assists I’m very happy for him! I help him a lot because his English is not good yet! Every single day I have to tell him ‘Hey you need to do this, you need to do this, need to do this’ but he’s started well. I hope he’s going to have a good season for him and for everyone but I’m happy for him.”

Finally, having missed the atmosphere of league football, Vitinho's counting down the days to get back to Turf Moor for Saturday's game against the Bluebirds.

“I’ve missed Turf Moor! Today when I came on the pitch, I told my guys ‘Hey I’ve missed this atmosphere you know’ and then now you go to Turf Moor. I hope everyone’s going to be happy, celebrate together and we’re going to work to win the game on Saturday.”
