Clarets boss Vincent Kompany discussed a number of topics in his first press conference as Burnley manager.
Kompany on transfers:
“I can tell you we’re close to signing a few players, but until the medicals are done and until they actually sign, there’s nobody that we’re bringing in officially.
“In general though, we’ve been close to players, and we’ve set up a few medicals with them. Hopefully in the next 24-48 hours, we can start making our first announcements. “
Kompany on the fixture list:
“It’s a complicated start for us, definitely. We’re playing against some tough teams and some teams that are probably tipped for promotion as well, but we’ll see.
“It’ll give us a good idea of where the team is at early doors, and I think that’s maybe for the better.”

Kompany on compiling his squad:
“That’s the hardest part, how quickly we can turn it around, especially when you’ve got new players coming in with new ideas as well.
“I’ve seen the team on the training pitch and how they’ve been able to show the togetherness in the very first days is one thing which we’ll take into the new season which is fabulous.”
Kompany on players moving on:
“Our team is one with some experienced players in and some definite quality as well.
“From our side, we wish the players moving on well, and we’re just excited to bring some new players in now.”

Kompany on the ‘perfect mix’ at Burnley:
“It’s always been an incredibly difficult place to come to, and the image that we’ve got is of Turf Moor. It’s a place of history and tradition.
“That’s the first feeling you get from it, and then when you get to the other side of it which is the training ground, I think it’s a good mix.
“You get to have this very English football type of reminder when you come to the stadium, but when you come to the training ground, you’ve got everything you need for a high-quality performance environment.
“In that sense, even the people here are of a very high quality.”
Kompany on what brought him to the Clarets:
“I met four or five people here before committing and there was a consistency in what they were all saying. There was just extreme transparency.
“I’m still a young manager and you rely so much on the people around you, so much on the time to development, and to show people what you can do.
“You try to find people that you trust, and that was my thinking [in joining Burnley]. It’s not rocket science to be honest. It’s like any other thing in life. If you apply yourself, then you can and will be successful.”
