Oluwaseun Adewumi's 88th minute strike saw the spoils shared on Sunday evening in a 1-1 draw with MLS side Columbus Crew at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Field Stadium.

Crew half-time substitute Daniel Gazdag broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, which looked to be the winning strike, until Adewumi turned home the equaliser late into the game to ensure a draw.

It was a humid and dry afternoon in Ohio, with limited chances for both sides, as the game reached the first hydration break of the fixture in the 28th minute.

The first real opportunity of a tight first-half came in the 40th minute, when Columbus Crew’s Nariman Akhundzada saw his drilled effort from the edge of the box aiming for the bottom corner pushed around the post by Max Weiss.

Deep into stoppage time of the first 45, Weiss was called into action again, this time to keep out a fierce strike from inside the box to ensure the two sides went into the break goalless.

Half-time saw a handful of changes for the Clarets, with Josh Laurent, Aaron Ramsey, Marcus Edwards, Oliver Sonne, Michael Obafemi, Armando Broja and Weiss all making way, with Connor Edwards, Connor Roberts, Ellis Clark, George Brierley, Kian McMahon-Brown, Andreas Hountondji and Vernon Masara coming on.

After a cagey first-half, the Crew opened the scoring two minutes into second, as Gazdag broke into the area and slotted home past Edwards to give the hosts the lead.

Burnley did come inches close to responding shortly after, as Hountondji fizzed a ball across the face of goal, but Masara narrowly missed out on a connection to turn it home from a few yards out.

The Clarets made four further changes just after the hour mark, with Kyle Walker, Oli Pimlott, Murray Campbell and new signing Lluc Castell all introduced.

Although Burnley were beginning to apply pressure on the home side, it was the Crew who came closest to scoring a second goal, but Owen Presthus' effort from inside the box could only rattle the crossbar.

However, the scores were pulled level with just a few minutes left on the clock, as the ball fell kindly to Adewumi from a few yards out to turn home and ensure a draw.

Burnley now head to Utah on Monday morning to travel to Salt Lake City, ahead of the third and final friendly of the US tour on Wednesday night.
