The Clarets were left waiting for their first point of the season, after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at Whitley Park.
A goal from striker Dylan Stephenson in either half was enough for The Magpies to secure their second win and extend their unbeaten start to three matches in the PL2 season.
Michael Mellon partnered Sam Unwin in attack, with Jake Rooney and Richard Nartey occupying the central defense positions, there was a first start of the season for goalkeeper Lewis Thomas & midfielder Mark Helm captained the side for the first time.
The hosts got off to a dream start in the north east, as Stephenson latched onto a defensive error at the back, before rounding Thomas and firing home with just two minutes played.
However, just moments later the Clarets had a chance to pull the scores level, as Mellon intercepted a United pass, before breaking into the area past two defenders, but Charlie Wiggett was there to intervene and clear the danger.
The Magpies then had an opportunity to double their lead, as Tom Allan burst into the box with pace, before beating Owen Dodgson and firing inches wide of Thomas' post.
Rodrigo Vilca then whipped in a dangerous ball for United, as United searched for a second, but Nartey, who scored his first goal on Monday for the Clarets, was there to head away.
Jacob Bedeau and Ne-Jai Tucker were then introduced after the break, replacing Jake Rooney and Max Thompson respectively, as the visitors looked for a way back into the PL2 clash.
But it was the home side who struck again just after the hour, as Stephenson grabbed his second of the evening, by taking advantage of another unfortunate defensive error.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, striker Joe McGlynn replaced Unwin, as Jackson looked to bolster the visitors' attacking options.
But chances for both sides were minimal as the game drew to a close on a crisp night on the coast.
However, the away side were dealt a late blow, as McGlynn was shown two yellow cards in the space of a minute, with referee Andrew Miller giving the youngster his marching orders.
Jackson's side are next in action on Friday 10th September, after the international break, hosting Wolves at Turf Moor.
